Renters’ Rights Training – September 23rd at the Cameron Center

Across Maui, renters have been falling through the cracks. Rising costs, unclear rules, and post-disaster recovery challenges have made it harder than ever for families to stay housed. That’s why Maui Housing Hui is hosting a Renter’s Rights Training—a space for renters, landlords, and community members to come together, ask questions, and leave with practical knowledge.

📅 Tuesday, September 23rd
5:00 – 7:00 PM
📍 J. Walter Cameron Center, 95 Mahalani St., Wailuku
🍴 Free dinner (Tacos from Pinatas!) & childcare always provided

Why this matters

When renters know their rights, and landlords understand their responsibilities, everyone benefits. Strong landlord-tenant relationships mean:

  • Fewer moves, keeping families rooted in their communities.
  • Less stress and fewer financial strains for both renters and property owners.
  • A stronger sense of stability, which makes neighborhoods healthier and more resilient.

Good landlord-tenant relationships are pono relationships. They create trust, reduce conflict, and ensure people stay safely housed—something that strengthens our entire Maui community.

What to expect

This training is designed to be engaging, practical, and community-centered. Renters will have the chance to learn more about their rights, connect with others who share similar challenges, and hear clear guidance on how to navigate housing situations. Landlords are also welcome—this is an opportunity to gain clarity on what they can and cannot do, so they can avoid missteps and build smoother relationships with their tenants.

Most importantly, this is a space to ask questions and get real answers. Together, we can break down barriers, share knowledge, and work toward a Maui where everyone has the security of a stable home.
