We’re Heading to South Maui! Join Us for Renter’s Rights Training in Kīhei

For the first time ever, Maui Housing Hui and our partner in our Housing Justice Initiative, S.O.U.L. Law Firm, are bringing our monthly Renter’s Rights Training to the Southside! As requested, we’re hosting tonight’s event in Kīhei so that South Maui renters can more easily access the tools and knowledge they need to stay housed and informed.

📍 Pro Arts Playhouse, Kīhei
🕔 April 21st | 5PM–7PM
🍽️ Free Dinner & Childcare Provided

This free event is open to both renters and landlords. Whether you’re navigating a lease, facing a difficult situation, or simply want to understand your rights and responsibilities better—we’re here to help.

What We’ll Cover:

  • Leases: The pros and cons
  • Evictions and Notices to Vacate
  • Assistance Animals vs. Pets
  • Discrimination
  • Rent Increases and ACT 202
  • What to do when communication breaks down between tenants and landlords
  • And more!

We know that housing on Maui can be stressful. The power dynamic between landlords and renters can be challenging—especially during a housing emergency when affordable rentals are harder to find than ever. But this training isn’t about creating tension—it’s about creating clarity. Responsible landlords who want to better support their tenants are always welcome, and we believe that when both sides understand the law, our entire community benefits.

Knowledge is Power—and Prevention

Too often, we see families in court or on the verge of displacement simply because they didn’t know their rights—or their landlords didn’t know their obligations. But when we all take time to learn, more people stay housed, kids stay in school, workers keep their jobs, and our neighbors can breathe a little easier.

So come join us. Get your questions answered. Get some ono dinner from our friends at Pinatas. Let the keiki play while we talk story and empower each other with real, practical knowledge.

When renters and landlords alike understand the rules, it leads to healthier relationships, more stable housing, and a stronger Maui for all.

See you tonight!
